What is Pediatric Dentistry?

A pediatric dentist is the pediatrician of the dental world. They are dentists who have undergone extensive specialized training in child psychology, growth and development as well as the latest techniques for treating dental problems that occur during childhood. With each developmental stage, there are numerous changes within a child’s mouth. A pediatric dentist specializes in these changes, and is able to spot and treat problems before they ruin a child’s smile.

Edward Matsuishi, D.D.S.

As a specialist in Pediatric Dentistry for over 30 years, Dr. Matsuishi has had the privilege of helping thousands of children grow and blossom. From teaching parents how to take care of their infant’s first teeth to catching up with college kids back for check-ups during semester breaks, Dr. Matsuishi loves being part of his patient’s lives.

Recently, he has had the pleasure of treating many young children whose parents were once his patients. Our Nurturing Environment

Dr. Matsuishi has been married for more than 35 years to his wife Beverly who holds a Masters in special education and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. They have worked together to create a nurturing environment where children feel safe, and parents find the warmth of a long-standing relationship with their child’s doctor.

You will feel the benefits of their efforts from the minute you enter our child-centered waiting room. Welcomed by a friendly staff member into our brightly decorated reception area, your child will delight in the variety of toys, picture books and stuffed animals. Dr. Matsuishi and his staff have been specially trained to gently calm the apprehensive child and answer all the questions of concerned parents.

Inside the operatory, all the latest and most advanced equipment is cleverly tucked away within a kid-friendly atmosphere. From the smallest infant to kids preparing for the SATs there is something here to engage them all. Every treatment is carefully explained in a manner to match a child’s developmental stage so even the smallest toddler feels comfortable.

What We Do

Our emphasis is on preventive care. Teaching good habits and catching problems early is both the key to preventing costly dental repairs and to ensuring a lifetime of beautiful smiles. We use our 30 years of experience to create a treatment program specific to your children’s needs. As your child grows, Dr. Matsuishi and his staff help them care for their teeth. Thus, starting early with a solid routine at home combined with regular examinations will ensure not only a lifetime of bright smiles but a positive feeling about going to the dentist.
